wild horse liberation
equine connection
your horse invites you to connect in every interaction…
and that invitation is to connect with yourself.

Connection is experienced in a moment of clarity, its in the stillness, the compassion, and arises from awareness itself. Connection is found in the moments of resting in our true nature. Its a state of being, and its the very essence of who we are.

what is wild horse liberation?
Wild Horse Liberation is a path of self-discovery for equestrians who are seeking a deeper connection with their horses. Combining a range of modalities such as mindfulness, meditation, sound healing and somatic parts work, equestrians can open to the healing opportunities that their equine partners offer them. This path opens equestrians to an inward journey of connection and liberation.
the horse-human connection is a state of being
There are many horse trainers that focus on the horse. We train them to engage their minds, their bodies and their spirits. But how often is it that we focus on ourselves?
Wild Horse Liberation invites you to question…When you invite your horses to connect with you, have you ever paused to wonder—what exactly you are asking them to connect with? Is it your body, your mind, your energy… or perhaps something deeper?
Often, there can be a belief that we need to train our horses to connect. There’s a belief that it’s their responsibility to learn how to connect with us. But how often do we reflect on our own sense of connection? Many of us carry a quiet disconnection from ourselves, and that’s simply part of being human. We all have parts of ourselves we struggle to accept, and in trying to hide or reject them, we may unknowingly create distance—not just within ourselves, but in our relationships with others too.
It can also be easy to confuse connection with training our horses. The human mind has a tendency to want to control its environment in its search for peace, happiness and connection and we can begin to believe connection is objective, a goal or something we may obtain. We can experience glimpse moments of connection whilst training our horses and although these glimpses happen, often we cannot put our finger on why or how it occurred. This can reinforce the minds tendency to control its environment and lead us further away from the truth itself.
Connection is experienced in a moment of clarity, it’s in the stillness, the compassion, and arises from awareness itself. Connection is found in the moments of resting in our true nature. It’s a state of being, and its the very essence of who we are.
“As long as you are trying to become, trying to get somewhere, trying to attain something, you are quite literally moving away from the truth itself”
How can we improve our horse-human connection?
Although I use the word ‘improve’, I’d like to suggest it’s more of a letting go or allowing. The word improve suggests that we are not already good enough, or need to get better at something, but connection is not a product of something, its the moment that we rest in our awake awareness beyond the constructs of the ego mind. Its always here, we are just not always aware of it. We are reminded of it in those glimpse moments and are not quite sure how we stumbled upon it. We may ask our horse to repeat the movement as we try to hold on to the experience, but it’s that very act of grasping that gets in our way. It’s not only in the grasping that we lose sight, but in the resistance too. This pushing and pulling, grasping and resisting, wanting and not wanting is what clouds us and we lose sight of the very thing that we are searching for.
Allowing things to be as they are
Connection is in the allowing, the resting, with an openness to experience whatever may arise. It is the letting go of what we think we know and it’s beyond the thinking mind. This isn’t always easy as the mind likes to believe its own thoughts, which can make it difficult to see beyond the lens of our own conditioning.
looking at the horse through the lens of our conditioning
How many of us have had the thought, ‘If everyone saw things the way I see them, then everything would be fine!’? Chance would be a fine thing! But what is it that has us believe that we, as individuals, feel that we have it right, especially when it comes to our horses?

we see what we are conditioned to see
We all see it differently. We have our own make up and yet the ground is all the same.
what is embodied awareness?
As we begin to take notice of the body, we may find some feelings and sensations that we were previously unaware of. Many of us spend most of our lives quietly disconnected from the body, living mainly through the thought processes of the mind. As we begin to come back home, we are slowly returning and reacquainting ourselves with wholeness of our being. I love this analogy that explains it so well…
Imagine your body is a neglected house, left abandoned and dusty for years. The windows are clouded, the doors creak and cobwebs cling to the corners of the room. Now consider embodied awareness as the gentle act of rediscovering this neglected old house.
As you step inside, you are greeted with a musty smell of neglect, but also the promise of renewal. Embodied awareness is like slowly opening the windows and doors, letting in the fresh air and sunlight. It’s about sweeping away the cobwebs of clutter and distraction and bringing attention back into each room or each sensation. And just as you might explore each room of the house with curiosity and care, embodied awareness invites you to inhabit each part of your body with that same attention and compassion.
You begin to notice the creaks in the floorboards, the warmth of sunlight streaming through the windows and the gentle hum of life within the walls. You become attuned to the subtle whispers of your body-the rise and fall of your breath, the beat of your heart, the sensations of tension and release. It’s like slowly acquainting yourself to the intricate architecture of your own being, learning to listen to its language without judgement or expectation.
Embodied awareness is not about fixing or remodelling the house; it’s about learning to appreciate its beauty and resilience, even in its imperfections. Its about finding peace and presence in the simple act of inhabiting your own body, fully and without reservation.

“All we really want in the end is to be connected once again with the truth of our being, to realise what it is that wears the mask of Self”
We are masters of getting in our own way
We tend to get in our own way. We don’t know this, usually. It can show up in a number of ways, often in ways that we don’t want to see or attend to.
Desire
Desire is the craving for external validation, control, and fulfillment through temporary pleasures, often reinforcing separation from true self-awareness and inner peace.
Resistance
Resistance is the mind’s attachment to fear, control, and identity, blocking growth and surrender by resisting change, truth, and deeper self-awareness.
judgement
Judgment is the mind’s tendency to label, compare, and separate, reinforcing illusionary superiority or unworthiness and veiling true understanding and compassion.
ignorance
Ignorance is the illusion of separateness that blinds one to truth, keeping the mind attached to false identities, limiting beliefs, and resistance to deeper awareness.

compassion in connection
There’s an element of compassion when we connect with our horses. It’s a kind of leaning in, or towards with an open heart. It doesn’t arise from neediness or a desire to love or be loved. The heart is open with acceptance and non-judgement of both oneself and of the other. When we find these moments within ourselves, we are open to connection.

The journey is different for all of us, but I share my story in the hope you see how all journeys eventually arrive at the same destination. We arise from the same awareness, with our own story to tell.
