somatic awareness & connection with horses

Maybe for you, there’s this feeling that something is missing in your relationship with your horse. You are doing great things together but something is lacking depth. Maybe your horse is doing everything asked of him, yet for you, you are missing true meaning and inner peace. Many people drawn to a more conscious way of being with horses encounter the popular phrase: “Leave your ego at the door.”  It is a phrase often spoken, yet so frequently misunderstood.
This ‘leaving the ego behind’ isn’t about trying to be passive, suppressing your feelings, or striving to be a “perfect” or calm handler. The ego isn’t pride, it is the subtle part of the mind that holds onto expectations, goals, and agendas. It is the part that wants things to go a certain way, desires quick fixes, or feels subtle frustration when a horse doesn’t respond as hoped. The ego is the part of us that claims ownership of who we are…It claims the I AM. Yet, beneath all this noise, there’s a quiet, open awareness that’s waiting to be discovered and this is the domain in which your horse resides.
Horses don’t respond to our mental intentions or desires; they respond to our immediate presence. They feel every micro-tension created when the mind tries to manage, direct, or control the moment. This inconsistency between mind and body creates unease as we become unpredictable in nature to the horse.
This work focuses on this exact threshold: noticing where the mind steps in with its preferences, desires, and subtle resistances, and learning how to drop into the quiet, spacious awareness beneath it. When we truly step out of the ego’s drive, we stop asking the horse to fit our agenda and begin meeting them as genuine partners in real-time presence.

does any of this resonate?

Whether you are navigating specific relational challenges or simply feeling called to relate to your horse on a deeper, more intentional level, notice if any of these ring true for you:

01

a Call for True partnership:

Loving your horse dearly, but feeling a subtle pull to move beyond performance, agendas, or transactional routines into shared presence and mutual respect.

02

unseen performance expectations:

Noticing how goals, subtle desires to “get it right,” or fear of making mistakes introduce hidden physical and energetic tension when you are together.

03

mental overwhelm and overthinking:

Feeling anxious, busy, or trapped in your head at the yard, making it difficult to settle into authentic grounding.

04

unpacking behaviour as communication:

Looking past quick fixes or pressure when your horse exhibits resistance or anxiety, and wanting to listen to what their body and energy are trying to communicate through choice and respect.

05

navigating boundaries & space:

Learning to embody soft, clear, and quiet boundaries that honour both your personal space and your horse’s choices.

the horse as a mirror to present awareness

When we step into the presence of a horse, we enter a space of immediate, unedited feedback. Horses exist fully in the present moment, constantly tuned into our nervous system, body language, and subtle internal state.
Rather than viewing horses as tools for our own healing or requiring them to perform a therapeutic role, this work invites us to meet them as conscious partners. The horse simply reflects back what is here, right now, showing us where our mind is clinging, where our body is holding tension, and where true connection becomes available. The mirror is a natural response in real time from the horse. It’s not magic, it’s not healing, it’s feedback. When we begin reflecting inward rather than outward towards the horse, we begin to notice our conditioned responses, our thoughts and emotions, and are able to meet them with compassion and grace.
These personalised 1:1 sessions draw upon my core practice, combining somatic meditation, gentle inner-enquiry, parts work, co-regulation, and sound, to help you step out of the busy mind and anchor into body-based awareness alongside your horse.

what we explore together

Working on-ground with you and your horse at your venue, sessions adapt organically to whatever arises in the moment:

the sessions

your first visit (90 minutes)

Your initial session is structured to be completely unhurried, gentle, and free of performance expectations for both you and your horse. There is nothing you need to prepare, “fix,” or achieve before I arrive.

initial grounding and enquiry

We begin by sitting quietly to check in. We’ll explore your history with your horse, any current relational or behavioral patterns, and take a moment for a brief somatic grounding exercise to settle your nervous system.

meeting without an agenda

We enter your horse’s space in a safe, open way, usually on the ground in a paddock, arena, or stable area without tack or pressure. We simply observe what happens when you step into presence alongside them

exploring the subtle mirror

As gentle self-inquiry and somatic awareness are introduced, we observe how your horse responds to changes in your breath, posture, boundaries, and internal focus.

integration & reflection

We end with time to digest the experience, giving you clear, quiet somatic practices you can easily bring into your daily routine with your horse.

ongoing sessions

Ongoing sessions offer dedicated space for deepening partnership, self-observation, and co-regulation. We can explore daily routines and practices (leading, grooming, or playing online or at liberty) through the lens of somatic awareness, tracking subtle mental habits, practicing clear boundary dialogues, and fostering a quiet sanctuary of mutual trust.

who this is for…

These individual sessions are for horse owners, riders, and lovers who wish to:

Move beyond mental tension, control, or agenda-driven interactions into quiet presence.

Deepen the capacity to listen to ones own body and the horse’s non-verbal dialogue.

Understand the somatic and psychological roots of misunderstandings on the ground.

Cultivate a sanctuary of mutual trust, choice, and authentic partnership.

No riding is involved. All work takes place on the ground in a safe, unhurried space.

Learn more about your facilitator…

Emma’s work is rooted in a deep respect for the body, the nervous system, and the quiet intelligence that emerges when we are given the space to slow down and listen.

Her approach has been shaped by many years of contemplative practice, spiritual guidance from her teachers, professional work within the mental health sector, and her own lived experience of moving through periods of overwhelm and disorientation toward greater steadiness and presence within the awakening process.

She teaches mindful embodiment through meditation, sound, stillness, gentle enquiry, equine-guided embodiment and nervous system–informed practices. Rather than offering solutions or interpretations, Emma focuses on creating calm, supportive spaces where people can explore their own experience with honesty and care.

‘Settle enough to stop seeking. Rest enough to stop fixing. Feel safe enough to be nothing in particular.’
